KMOP-1.1.4-11/B-2011-0165 Improvement of implant materials surfaces for enhanced osseointegration Funding organization: Hungarian Economic Development Centre (MAG Zrt.) Contract date: 20 Dec 2011 Project closing date: 31 Jan 2013 Role of Creative Cell Ltd: Main contractor Abstract: Replacement of missing bone with cell-seeded scaffolds, as well as improved osseointegration of skeletal and dental implants require detailed study of implant - host tissue interactions. Adhesion of osteogenic cells, such as mesenchymal stem cells, to bone implant surfaces can be modeled in in vitro experiments. However, in vivo studies involving ectopic or orthotopic placement of scaffolds and implants provide more relevant information on expected clinical outcome. The investigation of in vivo osteogenesis and osseointegration necessitates the processing of hard materials comprising bone and metal implants. This grant supports the establishment of a hard materials processing laboratory. Equipment to be purchased, installed, and set into operation include a low-speed, liquid-cooled diamond saw and a grinding and polishing apparatus.
