Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Back to Stem cell solutions >>>

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are highly versatile adult stem cells that readily differentiate into bone, cartilage, and other tissues under well-defined conditions.

Our Focus:

MSCs can be extracted from bone marrow, fat, or other self-renewing tissues of human patients without significant donor-site morbidity, and returned to the same patient as a non-immunogenic autograft.

In preclinical bone regeneration experiments, MSCs are typically seeded on scaffolds and implanted to the defect site, where they actively contribute to the healing process. In addition to their own potential to replace lost tissue, they extensively communicate with their cellular environment to recruit further stem cells, promote wound healing, and suppress adverse inflammatory reactions.

Alternatively, MSCs isolated from human donors can be cultured in vitro and used to model the mechanism of in vivo differentiation and regeneration. Moreover, MSCs are expected to be a superior natural model for in vitro drug testing assays to presently used tumor cells.
